The Metropolitan Opera’s Live Broadcast of "L’Amour De Loin"

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation are proud to present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Kaija Saariaho’s breakthrough opera, L’Amour De Loin, 12:55 PM at Cape Henlopen High School Theater.

The Live in HD season continues with Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s yearning medieval romance L’AMOUR DE LOIN (“LOVE FROM AFAR”). Presented as one of the most highly praised operas of recent years, it will have its Met Opera premier in a dazzling new production by Robert Lepage. Featuring glimmering ribbons of LED lights that extend over the stage, this lush production stars Eric Owens as Jaufré, the knight on a quest of love and Susanna Phillips as Clémence, his paramour on the other side of the sea. This East meets West tale of love and death was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival where it was first seen in 2000. Conductor Susanna Mälkki makes her Met debut. This historic occasion marks the first time in more than a century that an opera composed by a woman will be performed.

The New York Times describes it as “transfixing…a lushly beautiful score.” There will be one intermission. [2016, Sung in French with English subtitles, Runtime: 2 hours 33 minutes]

In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scene workings. This spectacular production is the third in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of 10 dates of live simulcast transmissions for 2016–17.

Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $25 for adults, $22 for RBFS members, Met members, and Seniors (65+); $15 for Students (with ID), and children (12 and under).
