AQUARIUS opening at the Cinema Art Theater

7:00pm Friday and Saturday (Dec 9-10), 4:00pm Sunday (Dec 11), Cinema Art Theater located at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza, behind the Lewes Wawa.

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present AQUARIUS, a drama about the determination of an individual to not be a victim of development.

In AQUARIUS, acclaimed Brazilian writer-director Kleber Mendonça Filho (NEIGHBORING SOUNDS) examines the alienating effects of urban over-development in Recife, a Brazilian oceanfront city. Clara (Sônia Braga), a 65 year old widow, vibrant former music critic, avid swimmer, grandmother, cancer survivor, and willing lover with flowing tresses, is the only remaining apartment owner in a gracious older building targeted for demolition by ruthless luxury high-rise developers. Clara pledges to leave only upon death and will engage in a cold war with the developers to keep a home that has been a silent witness to her entire life. As the builders’ tactics to remove Clara become increasingly hostile, Clara proves to be a force to be reckoned with.

Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Admission for a screening is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater.
