Are dogs allowed
on the beach?
It is
illegal for dogs to run at large at any time.
The City has both a leash law and a pooper-scooper law which
are enforced. Dogs are
prohibited from the beach and boardwalk at all times from April 1
through October 31, but are allowed on the beach in Dewey Beach
(just south of the RB Boardwalk) before 9:30am and after 5:30pm.
They must still be on a leash and have a Dewey Beach Dog License.
Dogs are allowed in the state parks. You may want to visit
Cape Henlopen State
Park in Lewes or
Delaware Seashore State Park south of Dewey Beach.

DELAWARE BEACH RULES FOR DOGS
STATE PARKS: Dogs are not allowed on
beaches marked for swimming or surfing. They are allowed in areas
designated for surf fishing vehicles, but must be leashed. Owners must
clean up after their pets.
LEWES: Dogs are allowed on the beach
at any time of the year except May 1-Sept. 30. During that time, dogs
are allowed before 8am, or after 6:30pm. They must be on a leash, and
owners must pick up after them.
REHOBOTH BEACH: Dogs are not allowed
at any time on the boardwalk or the beach from April 1 to Oct. 31. Off
season, dogs are allowed but must be leashed and owners must clean up
after them.
DEWEY BEACH: Dogs are allowed on the
beach year-round, but there are limitations during the summer - roughly
Memorial Day to Labor Day. Dogs then cannot be on the beach from 9:30am
to 5:30pm. Dogs do not have to be leashed, but owners are required to
clean up after their pets.
BETHANY BEACH: Dogs are banned from the
boardwalk and beach from May 15 to Sept. 30. At other times, dogs must
be on a leash and owners must clean up after them.
SOUTH BETHANY: Dogs are not allowed

on the beach from May 1 to Sept. 30. At other times, dogs must be
leashed and owners must clean up after them.
How & where can I
drive on the beach?
If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, you may
drive on the beach in designated surf fishing areas with a Surf Fishing
Permit. This permit is issued at most DE State Parks & some
fishing/outdoor supply stores for the sole purpose of surf fishing. In
Delaware, it is not required that you carry a license for saltwater
fishing, but you must present a valid vehicle registration to obtain the
permit. The fee is $50 for Delaware-registered cars and $100 for
out-of-state. The permit attaches to your car like a license plate and
allows beach vehicle access at
Cape Henlopen State
Park in Lewes,
Delaware Seashore
State Park south of Dewey Beach & at
Fenwick Island
State Park south of Bethany Beach. Surf fishing vehicle
permits are issued for the calendar year. Visit the
Division of Parks & Recreation's Web site for additional rules &
regulations.
